Today educational publisher Malmberg, a Sanoma Learning company, announces the acquisition of educational publisher Essener. Essener is the specialist in teaching methods in social studies in secondary schooling in the Netherlands. The acquisition includes all parts of Essener. The acquisition allows Malmberg to further expand its offering for the societal subjects.

Essener is publisher of the very successful teaching method in social studies: Thema’s in Social Studies. This teaching method includes teaching material in the field of politics, the multiform society, media, employment, crime and many other topics. One of the strengths of this method is the high topical value. The method pays a lot of attention to topics that are currently dominating the news and society.

Malmberg develops learning methods for primary, secondary and secondary vocational education and offers her methods via folio and integrated digital learning solutions. Essener will operate as a subsidiary of Malmberg while retaining its own identity.

According to Theo Rijpkema and Theo Schuurman, both founders of Essener, Malmberg and Essener complement each other very well: “As founders, we both have a background in Social Study teaching, which makes Essener a strong educational publishing company. We will join forces in the joint development of methods, platforms and services. With the same goal in mind: offering the best method social studies.
