Today we announced our intention to acquire Santillana Spain, a leading provider of learning materials for primary, secondary and vocational education in Spain, from its current owner Grupo Prisa. Last year the business had a revenue of 128m€. The transaction is expected to be finalised during the first half of 2021.

With the acquisition of Santillana Spain, Sanoma Learning obtains a leading position in the learning content market in Spain, where it already operates in learning content distribution as well as in digital platforms for teaching and administration through Iddink Spain and Clickedu, both acquired in 2019. Spain is one of the largest educational markets in Europe with 6.4 million students in primary, secondary and vocational education, but still in relatively low level in digitalisation.

Santillana Spain is part of Santillana Group, which is the learning business division of Grupo Prisa, the world’s leading Spanish and Portuguese-language media and learning group. Santillana Spain is a leading provider of learning materials, primarily textbooks, for primary and secondary education in Spain. It offers the schools, students and parents recognized and reputable high-quality learning content under well-known brands, such as Santillana, Loqueleo and Richmond.

Rob Kolkman, CEO Sanoma Learning: “I’m very pleased that the experienced and dedicated Santillana Spain team will be joining Sanoma Learning. We share the same vision and passion for education: supporting teachers and schools with the best content and digital platforms, so they can excel at developing the talents of every child. This is a great next step in our ambition to grow and have our positive impact on learning across Europe.”
