The Spanish company will maintain the focus on providing K-12 learning materials, key to Early Childhood, Primary, Secondary and Vocational Training education in Spain.

Madrid, January 11, 2021. Sanoma Learning, Europe’s leading provider of learning solutions in print and digital format, has completed the acquisition of Santillana Spain, a leading company in learning materials, from Promotora de Informaciones S.A. (Grupo PRISA). The acquisition, which has been enthusiastically received by both parties, was announced on October 19, 2020.

Sanoma Learning CEO Rob Kolkman: “I’m very pleased that we can announce that the experienced and dedicated Santillana team is now part of Sanoma Learning. I would like to warmly welcome our new Spanish colleagues; I can’t wait to start working together and learn from each other. We share the same vision and passion for education: supporting teachers and schools with the best learning materials and digital platforms, so they can help all students to reach their potential.“

Regarding the future of the Spanish company, Kolkman explained that: “The acquisition of Santillana Spain reflects Sanoma Learning’s strategy of increasing its positive impact on education throughout Europe. We see opportunities for growth with upcoming curriculum renewals and digitalisation. At Sanoma Learning we have good digital platforms and products, both in Spain and internationally, and we will investigate how to benefit from these solutions in the Spanish market. Many of our digital teaching platforms have been introduced in various countries and can be adapted (for example, to language and curricular requirements) to new geographic markets.”

Javier Caso de los Cobos, CEO of Santillana, stated that: “The team of professionals at the Santillana publishing house awaits with excitement and great expectations the integration into Sanoma Learning, since it is an excellent opportunity to share successful educational projects with other companies in the group operating in the European environment.”
