AI in Content Creation

At Sanoma Learning, we recognize AI as a key technology shaping the future of educational publishing. Used responsibly, it can help us create and adapt high-quality learning materials more efficiently, improve accessibility, respond to curriculum and policy changes faster, and develop completely new types of learning content. It also enables us to leverage the scale of our business by translating, localising and adapting proven educational content from one market to another.

We are already leveraging AI across the publishing process, from drafting support and translation to audiovisual content creation, accessibility, and data analysis. This hands-on experience demonstrates the value clearly: AI can help our teams work more efficiently, expand what we can offer, and invest more time in quality, pedagogy and customer needs.

At the same time, trust in the quality of our learning materials is the foundation of our business. AI can introduce factual errors, bias, and tend to generate generic low-quality content. It also raises important questions about copyright, ownership, and the role of our valued authors. For Sanoma Learning, AI is not a substitute for pedagogical expertise, editorial judgement, or creativity. The human expertise remains essential: content that is created with the assistance of AI is always reviewed, edited and approved by people with the right expertise before it can become part of our learning solutions.

We are therefore developing our use of AI deliberately and responsibly. We carefully assess the tools we use, apply expert oversight, and follow clear principles for the use of licensed materials. Before content is modified or reused with the help of AI, the applicable usage rights are always cleared, and we do not permit using our content to train AI models.

Authors and other rightsholders remain essential to Sanoma Learning’s success. We are committed to transparent communication, to honouring existing publishing agreements and to respecting and protecting the IP rights attached to the works we publish. In short, our goal is to use AI to create more value in learning while protecting the quality, integrity and trust that teachers, students, authors, and other partners expect from us.
